2014 Resolutions (in no particular order)

xmas books1.) Read more books: Yeah, I know, I know. Everyone’s saying this, but last year I only managed to knock out a couple books over the year because most of it was spent writing the 517-page monster that is GOOD SEX, GREAT PRAYERS. The time just simply wasn’t there, however, I’m currently in the middle of Dora: a Headcase by Lidia Yuknavitch and Nefarious Twit by Tony McMillen and loving both of them. Santa was good to me in the book-giving department.

2.) Read less horseshit: Richie Incognito, Trayvon Martin, the lesbian tip scandal…I’m sorry to admit that these stories along with many others ate up a ton of my time. This isn’t to say that these aren’t important issues in their own respective ways. The problem is I fell for the fucking click-bait on the latest development of the Anthony Weiner scandal or whatever else was hot that week, and I was no better off for it. No one was. News, I’m finding out, is more about inspiring outrage than giving information…and there was a lot of outrage this year. Having said that, it’s okay to have an opinion, but I found it interesting how when George Zimmerman got the “not guilty” verdict, every motherfucker on Facebook suddenly had a law degree.

3.) Write less: I can’t do another year like last year. No way. Anyone who’s every written a 500+ page novel in under a year can attest to the degree of difficulty. 2014 is going to be about promotion–not just for GOOD SEX, GREAT PRAYERS–but for the Chuck Palahniuk anthology as well as a few other things I have in the pipe. Expect more readings, interviews, and book club stuff. I’m still going to be writing, but in a less demanding sense…mostly short stories and columns.

4.) Obtain better trolls: THIS isn’t going to cut it anymore, but I do appreciate the fact that at 5:37a.m. Christmas Eve I was the first thing on your mind.

5.) Keep widening my readership: I’m hesitant to use the term “fan base” as it seems a little presumptuous, but I do happen to be in the unique situation that from time to time a total stranger will contact me through Facebook or Twitter saying how much they liked something I wrote. I like that…never gets old, and I’m hoping with these next couple projects coming out in 2014 I can build upon what’s already there.

GOOD SEX, GREAT PRAYERS is now on pre-order!!

GSGP Amazon preorderAfter over a year of conceptualizing, outlining, writing, editing, formatting, designing, and editing again…I’m happy to announce that Good Sex, Great Prayers is finally on pre-order…and you can get it over on Amazon RIGHT HERE.

However, certain people have expressed an interest in receiving signed copies. If you’re one of them, simply hold off for now; there will be an announcement once those become available (hopefully, in the next month or so). Just make sure you have a PayPal account ready as it’s the only way I can accept payment at the moment.

Finally, make sure to shelve the novel on Goodreads, which can be found by going HERE.

Books & Booze Reading in St. Louis

BT on stageOn June 22nd I had a reading in St. Louis which was put on by the Books & Booze crew. It was a good time…finally got to meet Jessica, Renee, and Dakota along with some authors that I had only previously known through the Internet. It was also my first time reading live from Good Sex, Great Prayers and the revamped version of Out of Touch coming out through Perfect Edge. For those of you that bought Out of Touch at the show, you’ve probably noticed by now that the piece I read isn’t in the actual book. All in due time.

Books & Booze has since put up a preview recording which you can check out HERE. I’m being told that a full-length video is in the works, but for now, this should give you an idea of what went down at the show. Below is a timestamped legend of the reading, complete with hyperlinks to each author’s Amazon page.

Fred Venturini: 00:00 – 15:00

Salvatore Pane: 15:00 – 25:20

J. David Osborne: 25:20 – 34:15

David James Keaton: 34:15 – 55:50

Gordon Highland: 55:50 – 1:11:55

Brandon Tietz: 1:11:55 – end

Books and Booze radio interview and live show

books and booze live showJust in case you missed it, I recently did an interview with the good people over at Books and Booze. In it you get some initial reactions to the new novel, Good Sex, Great Prayers (thank you Renee for being my guinea pig), and we also talk about what’s happening with the 3rd edition re-release of Out of Touch.

You can listen to the full interview HERE

Also, the B&B people will be putting on a live show in St. Louis next month. You should most definitely come out if you can. It’s a limited space event so be sure to RSVP on Facebook so we can put you on the list.

Not sure what the other guys are doing, but I’ll be reading some Kim Kardashain poetry, a little bit from GSGP, and I may do a game on stage involving books and booze (to keep it in theme). As far as merchandise goes, I’ll be bringing a box of Out of Touch (2nd Edition) copies with me. I’ll be selling those for only $5 a piece–and yes–I will most definitely sign them for you.

See ya at the show!
